I know the lift capacity is 400(398) and I never try to overload the fel. My question is has anybody tried to lift more then the capacity rating and if so how much.

I used to own a BX 2200. I think the loader was rated for 450lbs. As a test,I put 750lbs. of concrete blocks in the bucket with bucket waist high. I had a 400lb. box blade on the back and fluid filled tires. While standing beside the tractor, I bounced it up and down and the rear tires almost lifted off the ground. The loader had enough power to lift the load but I didn't feel comfortable going higher than 5 feet. ....

I wouldn't be surprised if the loader is capable of lifting a lot more than it is rated for. The load rating is contingent on a host of factors: hydraulic output, bypass valve setting, max cylinder pressure, tractor frame strength, loader arms and frame, front tires, axle and steering system, counterbalance, etc. The list goes on and that's just in a static state, then you have to look at dynamic factors. Point being: there's a significant safety factor built in to the design and the rating is based on the lowest common denominator. Take the load rating with a grain of salt. Use your head; just be safe. ....
